SEEKING THE UNSEEN

“Seeking the Unseen” was inspired by my travels in Hawaii. One unforgettable day, while hiking in Haleakala National Park, we lost track of time and found ourselves enveloped in darkness as night fell unexpectedly. With only the stars and the faint glow of our iPhones guiding us, we were startled by strange sounds echoing from all directions, sounds we couldn't quite attribute to any known animal or bird. Later, we discovered that these mysterious calls belonged to the rare Ua’u, a bird known for its elusive nature. 

Years later I still reflect on that encounter, envisioning the little Ua’u navigating through the darkness while fiercely protecting its young. This experience reminds me that even in the unknown, courage and resilience can illuminate our path. 

I hope that you too can embrace the unseen, for it often leads to the most profound discoveries.

In the midnight forest, shadows play,  
A lost bird takes to the fray,  
Wings spread wide in a silken glide,  
Through towering mushrooms, where secrets hide.  

Giant blue caps, shimmering bright,  
Illuminate the woods with ethereal light,  
A hidden world where wonders bloom,  
In this enchanted realm, dispelling gloom.  

Among the giants, a snail takes its post,  
Balanced on a mushroom, it sways like a ghost,  
Ready to slide down, on a daring quest,  
While the spoonbill pauses, its heart in its chest.  

Eyes wide with wonder, the bird’s gaze meets,  
The curious creature, where magic repeats,  
In this fleeting moment, nature’s surprise,  
A dance of existence beneath starlit skies.  

Together they linger, in silence profound,  
In a midnight forest, where dreams abound,  
A story unfolding, with each gentle breath,  
Of life’s simple wonders, and the beauty of depth.
